Castor Oil, blown
Description:
Gained oil by cold pressing of the semen of the castor shrub (Ricinus communis). As a result of auto-oxidation by blowing in 100-150°C hot air the oil gets viscous, good drying and weather resistant.
Characteristic:
Blown Castor Oil is a pale yellow viscous
liquid with liminal, characteristic odour. Mixable
with chloroform, ethanol, ether, anhydrous acetic acid, not readily
soluble in petroleum ether.
Applications:
- plasticizer for paint raw materials, in particular nitro cellulose
- plasticizer for cements, fillers, sealing compounds
- part of hydraulic liquids
- solvent in alkyd resins to improve brilliancy, flexibility and flowability.
